Visit with Joan Trumpauer Mulholland

Today we had a special guest in Forest Class, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. Joan was an activist during the Civil Rights Movement and a part of the group known as the Freedom Riders. She read a story, Grandpa's Gift to the class and shared pictures of her friends and experiences. The kids had the opportunity to ask her questions about the book she read and her life. Ask your kids about Thurgood Marshall?

Joan shared pictures of black people walking together to register to vote in Mississippi.

Martin Luther King Day Celebration

Remembering the Past - Engaging in the Present...

I believe Carolina Friends School is one of the few schools in the area where classes are in session on Martin Luther King Day. It is not an ordinary school day, but a day to reflect and remember a brave man who stood for peace and justice for all humans. What a great story for our kids to hear and participate in each year. Here are a few snapshots from today's celebration.
