News From the Forest

This weeks Ranger is Triston. Triston is 10-years-old. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His family includes my mom, my dad, and my sister. For pets he has seven fish! The things he likes to do when he is at home are watch television and play on the computer. If he was stranded on island and could have only one thing with him he would have my house. His favorite food is chocolate cake with chocolate icing. The food he dislikes the most are brussel sprouts. His hobbies is fencing. When he goes on vacation he most likes to go to New Orleans. His dream vacation would be to go to Paris. When he grows up, right now, he wants to be a veterinarian.
This week's Ranger is Triston.

Notes from the teachers:

Just a few more days until Winter Break. We wish everyone a safe and happy break. Here are some ideas to keep learning exciting over break. Feel free to add your ideas in the comment section.
  • Set aside special times throughout the week where everyone in the family drops everything and reads together. It is so powerful for your child to see the adults in his or her life taking the time to enjoy reading.
  • Continue to practice addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. The students have been taught several math games which allow them to practice and build automaticity of their basic math facts. The goal is for all 3rd year students to memorize multiplication facts from 0 to 5 and then 10s and 11s. All 4th year students should memorize multiplication facts from 0 to 12.
  • Writing letters, cards or thank you notes is an authentic way to practice handwriting and sentence formation.
  • Assisting in the kitchen with cooking and measuring ingredients is a great hands-on math experience for kids.
Just a few things to note:
  • Noon dismissal on Friday
  • 4th years will be ready to take their gingerbread houses home tomorrow (Thursday, December 15th)
  • Remember school pictures have arrived and can be picked up in the front hall of the Lower School. Directions for paying for school pictures are available in the front hall.
  • School resumes on Tuesday, January 3rd
